Ben Hakimian, Founder and President
Ben Hakimian co-founded The Hakimian Organization in 1970. Since then, he has fostered the company in developing over 30 buildings which have shaped and defined many neighborhoods in Manhattan. An architect by background, Mr. Hakimian has imbued his own sense of form, function and aesthetic to each residential, commercial, institutional, and cultural building he has completed. Mr. Hakimian's expertise in land use, project analysis, conceptual design, and construction dovetail firmly with his pioneering attitude to site acquisition. Under his care, The Hakimian Organization has, and continues to, create an wide array of distinctive projects, from five-star hotels to super-luxury highrise condominiums.
Mr. Hakimian's vision is characterized in two projects which have revitalized some of Manhattan's most important areas: 636 Eleventh Avenue on the West Side; and 75 Wall Street in the Financial District. His other achievements include a noted 40 story mixed-use tower in Midtown; the jewelry district's first highrise commercial condominium; and a celebrated tower in the Flatiron Historic District.
Mr. Hakimian is deeply involved in community development and many charitable causes. He graduated with a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Kansas State University in 1967.
Joe Hakimian, Founder and CEO
As co-founder of The Hakimian Organization, Joe Hakimian has guided the creation of over 3 million square feet of real estate, encompassing some of the most significant projects in recent New York City construction. A registered professional engineer, he has driven numerous complex developments, drawing on his vital knowledge of structural, mechanical, and logistical concepts. Mr. Hakimian has ushered the continued growth of The Hakimian Organization through his attentive leadership in investment analysis, project financing, construction planning, asset stabilization, asset management, and cost control.
Mr. Hakimian's innovative ideas in development were highlighted at the prestigious Club at Turtle Bay condominium project at 236 East 47th Street, where this luxury residential highrise was built atop an 18 foot cantilever. A 28 story tower he completed at 50 Lexington Avenue still bears its impressive mark on the Gramercy neighborhood in New York City.
Joe Hakimian has dedicated much of his time to community construction projects. He graduated from Kentucky University in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, specializing in Structural Engineering.
Rex Hakimian, Executive Director, Acquisition & Finance
Since 1993, Rex Hakimian has been responsible for directing and overseeing the acquisition and financing of new developments worth over $2 billion for The Hakimian Organization. Mr. Hakimian has successfully led several residential, commercial and hotel projects in New York City since joining the company. A critical aspect of his contributions have come through the form of his financing efforts for the most complex deals, a critical element to any project's success. He has also directed all legal and contractual matters involved in development and leasing of every project. As a licensed New York State Real Estate Broker, Rex founded Five Star Group, Inc., a brokerage company specializing in retail leasing.
Mr. Hakimian volunteers his time to numerous charitable organizations. He has also served as vice president on several boards involved in community youth development. Rex received his Bachelor’s Degree in Finance at Hofstra University’s School of Business.
Shawn Hakimian, Executive Director, Marketing and Sales
During his tenure as the Director of Marketing and Sales, Shawn Hakimian has maintained the company’s residential portfolio at record low vacancy levels, while increasing rent rolls dramatically. Mr. Hakimian led the sales and marketing team at 75 Wall Street, a mixed-use development of approximately 600 condominium and hotel units. He also played a key role in the leasing of 636 Eleventh Avenue to Ogilvy & Mather, one of Manhattan’s largest and most heralded commercial transactions in recent years. Other notable achievements of his include the leasing of several large-scale new developments including 227 Mulberry Street, the Chelsea Grande, and the Flatiron18 building.
Mr. Hakimian is an active member of the community and proudly participates in several charitable causes. He graduated from Hofstra University’s School of Business with a bachelor’s degree in Marketing and a minor in International Business.
Adam Hakimian, Executive Director, Construction & Planning
Adam Hakimian joined The Hakimian Organization in 1995, and today oversees a wide spectrum of its construction activities. Mr. Hakimian has directed and completed several building projects totaling over $850 Million. His achievements are highlighted by projects producing award-winning architecture, including three new buildings he completed under the auspices of the Landmarks Preservation Committee in NYC. His expertise in pre-development planning, contract allotment, and construction administration has led to success in many of the company’s ground-up developments and conversion projects. Mr. Hakimian also continues to save millions of dollars in real estate taxes for the company through his implementation of the 421a program, the ICIP program, and city-issued reductions.
Mr. Hakimian is a member of several charitable organizations. He graduated from Hofstra University’s School of Business with a bachelor’s degree in Marketing.
Kevin Gorjian, Managing Director, Marketing & Design
As Managing Director of The Hakimian Organization, Kevin Gorjian lends his savvy design & style concepts to the company's presentation of its finished products. Since joining the company in 2001, he has infused new projects with cutting edge finishes, sophisticated amenity packages, and numerous customer service ideas which have enhanced the tenant/buyer's living experience, and in turn, has raised property values and consumer demand. Mr. Gorjian has contributed to the Andaz Hotel project, a 250 key project with a planned restaurant, fitness center, recreation center, and skylounge designed by world renowned architect David Rockwell. In addition, he has presided over renovation projects within the company's existing rental property portfolio.
Mr. Gorjian volunteers his time to various charitable entities. He graduated with a degree in marketing from Hofstra University's School of Business.
Michael Hakimian, Managing Director, Construction
Before joining The Hakimian Organization, Michael Hakimian worked at various firms in civil engineering and construction management. Among those was Severud Associates, a prestigious structural engineering firm, where he designed residential & commercial low and high rise buildings. He joined the Hakimian Organization in 2007, where his combined practical experience and theoretical background in engineering and construction give him a strong advantage when it comes to building development. As a licensed professional engineer, he contributes to the team by adding valuable input from the design development stage of a project through its completion. He is presided over the construction of 75 Wall Street, a 42 story conversion in conjunction with the global Hyatt Hotels company.
Michael is an active volunteer in civic needy programs. He graduated from The Cooper Union in 2005 with a Bachelors of Engineering degree, majoring in Structural Engineering with a minor in Architecture.
Jay Hakimian, Managing Director, Design & Construction
Prior to his entry in the Hakimian Organization, Jay Hakimian worked in several notable Architecture firms; where he acquired a profound understanding of the complexities of contemporary architectural design. His most recent works can be experienced in several of our buildings, where Jay has led a design team towards new installations, and renovations. Jay Hakimian received his Bachelors of Architecture from New York Institute of Technology with honors in 2011, where he was awarded the David Diamond “Chair of Architecture” award for the class of 2011. He was also awarded the “2011 Thesis Recognition Award” for his work; “Synagogue En-masse”. Upon graduation Mr. Hakimian was recognized as a Magna cum laude member of the Dean & President’s of the University list.
In 2009 Jay Hakimian Co-Founded the Esmail & Naz Foundation for Cancer Research and Care, in loving memory of his grandparents.
Edwin Fernandez, Property Manager
For over two decades, Edwin Fernandez has honed his expertise in asset management. After working for the Related Companies, Ed joined The Hakimian Organization in 2007, bringing with him the skills necessary to truly elevate a building to its greatest potential. Mr. Fernandez is charged with all tenant services; mechanical upkeep and modernization; building staff personnel; annual maintenance and testing protocols; building code compliance; daily building operations; and overall efficiency.
As an active part of the real estate community, Mr. Fernandez is a member of the National Hispanic Real Estate Professionals, IREM, and NYARM. In addition, he served as an adjunct teacher at Baruch University.
